2014 was a great year for me. After having the tested the water of Formula Car racing in Asia and my home country of India the previous year (2013), I was ready to make the leap into the world of European racing by competing in the BRDC Formula 4 championship in the U.K.
The BRDC Formula 4 championship is a highly competitive series in the U.K. and is considered one of the basic stepping-stones on the ladder to Formula One. The series saw over 27 drivers classified in the championship and I was only one of two Asians and the only Indian on the grid. Being a rookie I was also at the disadvantage in terms of track knowledge.
That being said however I was able to overcome the odds and with the help of my team Lanan Racing I finished second overall in the championship losing out by two points in the championship to my teammate George Russel.
Through the course of the 24 races through the season I was able to attain 4 wins, 9 podiums, 6 fastest laps and 5 pole positions. I also had one DNF in the series, which was my lowest point in the year having raced through the weekend while I was ill. That one incident aside, it was definitely a fantastic year of racing and I am definitely proud of what I have accomplished. The biggest highlight of the year and my career so far has to be my first win in the series, which was also my first win in Europe! Fortunately I was able to get off the mark quickly and and attain my first ever podium in my first ever round, which boosted my confidence significantly.
Besides my on track experiences I was able to meet some great people along the way, from the team at Lanan racing to the guys at Izone, 2014 was really in a lot of ways a breakthrough year for me. All this wouldn't have been possible of course without the help of my sponsors, J.K. Tyre and Kirloskar Electric who have believed in my ability and have backed me going into 2015 as well.
Coming to 2015, I will begin my year competing in the Toyota Racing Series in the New Zealand before beginning my campaign in the Formula 3 Euroseries. I certainly do hope 2015 can be as remarkable as 2014 and I'm definitely looking forward to it!
